Greek Without Greeks: Competing Notions of Authenticity in the Pronunciation of Classical Languages

In this paper, competing notions of what constitutes "correct" or "proper" pronunciation of classical languages is considered. The idea of authenticity and ownership of a language is discussed, and the possibility of pluricentrist phonology is investigated.Downloads
